The family of NSW teacher Stephanie Scott, who was raped and murdered by a school cleaner, is suing the state government.
The bride-to-be, 26, was killed on Easter Sunday in 2015 at her Leeton School before her body was found burned and dumped in the Cocoparra National Park, some 70km away.
AAP understands the claims have only been filed on behalf of Ms Scott's relatives this week and the state Department of Education was not approached before proceedings commenced.
A department spokesman declined to comment in detail, citing the current legal action.
"The department is aware the circumstances resulting in these proceedings are sensitive and all efforts will be made to respond to the claims appropriately," he said in a statement.
School cleaner Vincent Stanford was in October 2016 convicted of the brutal murder and sentenced to life imprisonment with no chance of parole, with a judge declaring the crime fell within the worst category of the offence.
Stanford dragged Ms Scott into a storeroom where he attacked her with his fists and a large knife.
He was arrested three days later and admitted to going "a little nuts".
The crime was labelled as "calculating", "conniving" and "callous" by Supreme Court Justice Robert Allan Hulme.
The family was struck by tragedy again in November 2016 when Ms Scott's father, retired teacher Robert Scott, was killed by a falling tree while clearing land 1z0-445 dumps on his Canowindra farm in the central west of NSW.
