On Sunday, the students arrived just eight days after a fire engulfed their village in a large forest near Russia's border with Ukraine following the February revolution that overthrew President Vladimir Putin.
The fire was the first of its kind in the village.
"It burned my house," said Dovid Karpov, 28. "I felt a burning sensation, but I was in no mood to sit down and sleep. It didn't hit me as much. Later I went home to my family, but no one was there. Then they found me at the camp and I saw how lucky we were to find out what happened to us."
The firefighters left the scene after the fire broke out over four miles of woodland. Their group eventually found homes and food and then returned to their own village in the mountains near Komsomolskaya Pravda region. It was the city's first-ever fire-related incident, the first so far in Moscow since the 1990s.
"It's a sad day for Komsomolskaya Pravda that we have lost a city that has welcomed us when you look around like this," said Sergei Uleshev, who runs the town's education ministry. "We are so grateful and so thankful to this small town for its hospitality. It is a great coincidence. It's great that it's in a good spot."
The UESR has contacted all of Russia's national and private fire ministries as well as the United Nations and the OSCE. In all, three of Russia's 20 member states say that there is no serious threat of fire or serious destruction of the country's national infrastructure. However, in May 2015 the U.N. Special Rapporteur on forest fires in the Russian forests said that "further investigation is needed" in order to "create a sense of urgency for the implementation of a plan to reduce the number of forest fires to a minimum."
