A cafe determined to fight a downturn in business caused by the coronavirus has offered a free roll of toilet paper for every two coffees sold.

Candy Porter, who owns FC's Coffee in Townsville, came up the idea with her daughter after two days of very low sales this week.

Ms Porter launched the promotion on Wednesday with a cheeky sign that read: 'Is coronavirus giving you the s***s? Buy two large drinks and get a free roll of toilet paper'.

'My daughter said "hey mum lets think of another way of getting business" and she said "everyone is after toilet paper so if I can buy toilet paper we could give it away",' Ms Porter told Daily Mail Australia.

The idea has seen her business double overnight with many even turning down the highly sought after sanitary product so those in need could have more.

'There is a lot of people that have come in and bought two coffees and I've gone "here is your roll" and they've gone "no give it to the next person I've already got some at home",' she said.

'One of my customers that comes in all the time he's got five foster children and he hasn't been able to buy toilet paper anywhere, he bought one coffee and I was able to give him a couple of rolls.'

Within hours the idea was attracting attention from new customers and even businesses in the area who were keen to help.

'Amazingly a cleaning company who has got spare toilet paper came in and gave me another box of 48 to give away - it's amazing what's happening,' Ms Porter said.

Ms Porter said she was able to secure a single bulk pack amounting to 48 rolls of toilet paper through a commercial cleaning company.

The business owner said she has sadly been inundated by trolls who has accused her of selling the rolls for profit - when she is actually giving them away.

'There are people out there going you shouldn't do this and they are calling me names and doing all sorts of weird stuff on Facebook, so I'm trying to avoid Facebook now,' she said.
