The 1955, 1956 and 1957 Chevrolet Bel Air, 150 and 210, typically referred to as the 'Tri-Five,' are a staple of American vintage car programs and clubs. Participate in any local car fulfill and it's highly likely you'll see a Tri-Five of some sort there, so for owners of these lorries, it can be tough to stand out.


The automobile, which was recently featured on YouTube channel AutotopiaLA, turns a load of heads thanks to its matte black/gloss black exterior color combination, low-slung stance, shaved door handles and, maybe most significantly, the rumble of its 6.2 L LS3 V8 engine. AutotopiaLA spoke with the owner of the car, Matt, who supplied some background on the build.


After driving the vehicle home, Matt immediately went to deal with the cars and truck, shaving the door manages, overhauling the interior and changing the 350 cubic-inch V8 engine (which he blew) with an LS3 cage engine purchased from General Motors Efficiency. He also installed an air bag suspension and larger, black-painted wheels to give the Chevy coupe the low-rider look he had pictured for it.


According to the owner, the paddle shifters work to provide him some extra stopping power through the method of engine braking, as he had initially developed this vehicle as a road rally racer. He later went back on those strategies after having a child, but he decided to keep the paddle shifters anyways.
