AUSTIN – Two people charged with drug and weapons crimes were arrested Saturday in the Houston region after a woman allegedly struck a man with a baton during a road rage dispute.

The woman, identified by authorities only as Mary Ann Leff, 43, faces felony assault, reckless endangerment, disorderly conduct and criminal mischief charges.

The Texas Department of Criminal Justice and Police Services Criminal Investigation Division arrested 24-year-old Jessica Smith after she allegedly made an aggressive argument with a male relative in March of this year. The confrontation ended on an alleyway, where Smith then repeatedly threw a baton at the defendant.

Smith was later taken to ULM Hospital, where she was treated. Police said the woman is in custody on unrelated charges.

Detectives believe the case may be connected with an alleged sexual activity related to the incident, according to a news release issued by Houston Police on Saturday evening.
