The key takeaway here is that before you buy an e-book, check to see if it's available from your library. And if it's not, maybe you can find something else you'll enjoy reading. You can certainly can't beat the price.

At that point, the digital copy expires, meaning you can no longer access it -- unless you check it out again. Once a book is checked out, you usually have two to three weeks before it must be "returned," which happens automatically once the return date hits. (Take note, however, that you might end up at the bottom of the waiting list again.)

It's true: Many libraries have partnered with RBdigital (formerly Zinio for Libraries) to offer electronic 'zines you can check out and read on a variety of devices. I was already a big fan of doing that on my iPad, so I'm overjoyed that my local library here in metro Detroit offers this awesome option.

Any magazines you've already checked out should be waiting for you. Once it's installed, run it and then sign into the RBdigital account you just created. Alternately, you can tap the Menu button and then Magazines to explore the collection and choose titles to check out. Get the apps
The RBdigital apps are available for Fire, Android and iOS.

On the back cover an excerpt describes the leadership style of Teddy Roosevelt as Michael gave Stewart as example, "He offered praise and encouragement all the time. Morale was always high simply because we were serving with him. Most ranking officers, in leading a charge, would say ,'Go up' and lead from behind. He would get in front and say, 'Come up.'"

The download will occur between December 17, and December 30, 2012. The eBook is offered on Woodcutter's Revival web site, Amazon, Barnes and Noble and any other site that sells Kindle or Nook eBooks. Woodcutter's Revival will be offered for a free download in Kindle and Nook versions.

You'll use your library card to sign in or create an account. It might be called "eLibrary" or "Downloads" or something else entirely, but it should lead you to at least one of the two major lending services: Hoopla Digital and OverDrive. A compatible device (iPhone, iPad, Android phone/tablet, Kindle reader, Kobo reader)
Yep, that's about it. Next you'll want to visit your library's web site and look for something pertaining to e-books.

To be clear, I'm talking about the e-book -- the same exact one that would cost me $15 on Amazon. Most libraries have partnerships with one or more digital-lending services, meaning you can borrow, well, a library's worth of reading material, all from the comfort of your PC, phone or tablet.

Shipping benefits
Free Download PDF Book overnight shipping: In the beginning, Prime afforded a fantastic shipping upgrade: Free two-day delivery on many, if not most, of Amazon's physical goods -- even if it's just one item and it costs just a few bucks. ($3 HDMI cable, anyone?) Earlier this year, however, the benefit got even better: Amazon transitioned to overnight shipping for millions of products. When you get to the checkout page, look for a "no-rush delivery" option, which can net you a small credit (usually $1) that can be applied to digital purchases: e-books, movie rentals and so on.

It's a surprisingly generous offer, too: For most titles you get access to not just the latest issue, but also back issues. There's usually no limit on the number of magazines you can "check out," and they don't expire after a certain time period the way library e-books do. In other words, you get to keep them for as long as your account is active.

Marketing any novel, particularly one of the historical fiction genre involves gaining exposure to the general public and getting the book into as many hands as possible to be downloaded, read, reviewed and referred. When an author and publisher offer a free eBook download, it is a win-win situation.
