MailOnline has contacted both Ofcom and This Morning for comment.

In 2016, Phillip once again apparently failed to remain impartial as he spoke at length about the shock US election results on This Morning.

Talking about his worries on the show following Donald Trump's win, he told viewers: 'I had lunch with Piers Morgan a while ago and he told me that Trump would be President and I said, "He frightens the life out of me".

'I think a lot of people woke up this morning and thought, my God I am actually terrified that this man should be in charge.'

He continued: 'Piers said, "No, no no, this is all a game, a plan. He is going to be outrageous. He is going to pull in people who want a change when he gets into the Oval office, he will become Presidential."'

Phillip also made his views clear on Twitter at the time, posting a cartoon of himself with the words: 'What happened?' written above it.

He captioned the image with the words: '... well it'll be fascinating!!' alongside a red-faced shocked emoji.
